Gingivitis – Inflammation of Gingiva

Characterized with bleeding of gingiva, changing its’ color to red, loss of rete pegs, softening of its’ consistency, disruption of knife edge and lace form.

The most common cause of gingivitis is inflammation originated from ‘microbial plaque’ produced by bacteria and food remnants on teeth surface due to lack of brushing. Treatment of initial phase is easy for this type of inflammation. It can easily be treated with a good tooth surface cleaning and good surface polishing and a good oral hygiene. 

The other cause of gingivitis is systemic diseases related gingiva disorders. Treatment of this type of gingivitis is more difficult and underlying systemic diseases should be detected and treated.
