There are muscle attachments extended from lip and cheek region to gingiva and they are called frenulum. Sometimes those attachments may have a higher position or may be thicker than normal. If this condition is located on the lingual frenulum it may lead speech disorders or lisp. If this condition is located on the lip and cheek frenulum, it may lead limitation of lip-cheek movements or gingival recession.
Removal or repositioning of those frenulums may be required if those attachments cause functional disorders. Frenulums can be repositioned by Z plasty, Y plasty operations and also their tonus and amount can be reduced by Frenectomy.
