Laminate veneer treatment is applied in case of having discoloration on tooth surface, yellowish color of enamel or cracks on teeth, small tissue loss from tooth surface due to trauma.
Laminate veneers can be divided in two groups; composite or ceramic.
Composite laminate veneers; they can be prepared and applied directly intra orally or in laboratory by taking an impression.
Porcelain laminate veneers are prepared in laboratory by taking an intra oral impression. Porcelain laminate veneers can be classified in two groups related with the amount of tissue removed from the tooth surface, those groups are classical laminate veneers and leaf laminate veneers.
Classical laminate veneers are applied by removing 0.3-0.5 mm tissue from the tooth surface. They are used for covering minimal cracks or tissue loss, discolorations, gaps between teeth (diastema), when teeth have positions slightly anterior or posterior side.
Leaf laminate veneers are also called contact lens laminate veneers and they are applied without making any reduction from tooth surface or making 0.2 mm removal. They are preferred in case of not having discoloration or tissue loss on teeth surfaces. They are not suitable for teeth having discoloration or tissue loss because they are very thin.
