Other Periodontal Diseases

The other form of periodontal disease is periodontal abscess. The difference between periodontal abscess and periodontal disease is pain. They are characterized with swelling, redness and pain in periodontal region. They can be observed in especially periodontitis frequently. It occurs due to obstruction of periodontal pocket with food remnants or calculus. Curretage or flap operation should be performed beside medical agents for treatment.

In some cases periodontal abscess can be combined with peri apical lesions and ‘perio-endo combined lesions’ may be observed. Operational procedures may be required beside endodontic treatment for treatment of combined lesions
