Root canal treatment is performed by dentists and includes procedures for treatment of diseases of vessel and nerve package inside the teeth. Root canal treatment involves removal of inflamed or necrotic tooth pulp that causes problems, pain, abscess and cyst and then completely filling this gap with a harmless material.

Root canal treatment is a type of treatment performed when decay cavity is very close and/or effecting the nerve when it is not treated with fillings.  In this type of treatment, caries are cleaned, nerves inside the root are removed and the root is shaped by using some devices  and then some kind of materials are placed in the gap as a substitute for nerves, finally filling is done and the treatment is completed by this way.

 In which Situation Root Canal Treatment Is Applied?

Vital ‘pulp’ tissue including nerve and blood vessels may be damaged due to various reasons (caries, trauma, gingiva diseases etc.). Removing this infected tissue with disrupted circulation, cleaning and disinfecting this root canal cavity consisting pulp and nerves and later on filling it with materials compatible with tissue is called ‘root canal treatment’. Endodontic treatment aims to maintain the function of tooth esthetically and functionally.

Does Root Canal Treatment Kill the Tooth?
